Oliver vs. the Pool

About 6 years ago my parents put a pool in their backyard. They definitely had some foresight when they did it. They made the first step into the pool nice and big so that their (at the time future) grandkids could have plenty of room to crawl around and play when they were babies. It has definitely worked out. Those little kids LOVE that first big step. They crawl all over it and just sit their little selves down and have a nice splash. It's really fun to let them have a little independence on that step.

Yesterday Oliver's independence got the best of him. I was watching him as he splashed and crawled around and played when he decided that he would take advantage of the shallowness of the step he was standing on and crawl out of the pool. He's done this before (which only bothers me because the pool deck is way too hot to crawl on and so I have to chase after him to get him back in the water and cooled off) and been fine, but this time the pool decided he needed to stay put. As soon as he put weight on his little hand to crawl out he slipped and got a nice scrape. It drew blood which was pretty traumatic for me to see his perfect little baby skin all scratched up. But, the good news is I think he'll recover :) We are going to head out in a little bit to swim, hopefully there won't be a rematch!
